Our Vision
Safe and strong partnerships that bring hope and healing to young people on Larrakia Land
Leader’s Statement
We are a group of Larrakia Leaders, First Nations community leaders and youth advocates.
Strengthening wellbeing for young people means looking holistically at what helps people to heal and to thrive.
We learnt from young people that there are key areas of community action that can help.
The following three areas are important ways for us all to step forward:
Belonging & Connection
Families, and the communities are the key supports for young people. We can help young people by surrounding them and their families with culture, community and care.
We can help families to connect with Country and spirit and strengthen their identity. We can connect to culture, create safe meeting places and hold events that celebrate families, children and young people.
Support, Healing & Safety
Families must be resourced to do the intensive healing and support work that helps children and young people who have had contact with justice systems. Access to income, food, power, safety, rest and healing must be in place.
Once children and families are safe, healing, health and support services can help families to provide the best care. Families should not be unsafe or in poverty and more support needs to be in place for families.
Positive Experiences & Hopeful Futures
Young people told us that having things to do helped with wellbeing. Communities that create opportunities for young people can help to build positive experiences and hopeful futures.
We need to strengthen pathways for young people to share their talents, lead, innovate, and contribute their knowledge. Young people also said that being around non-judgmental adults helped. Families need communities around them, who value children and young people.
