Young people in the justice system are experiencing many challenges.

Engagement with Traditional Owners and community leaders, to lead change for young people, has been a key recommendation from consecutive Royal Commissions.

To date, there has been little progress on these goals.

It is also important to listen to children and young people’s voices. Our community-led research is for the wellbeing of all children and their families.

Our group has formed a collective to share knowledge with the whole community and create more ways to support families, children and young people.

We partnered with Melbourne University to research what communities can do to strengthen the wellbeing of young people who have had contact with justice systems in Garramilla (Darwin).

We created our own culturally safe interview methods and asked 36 young people, who had been in contact with justice systems, about their wellbeing.
